Pop Music Is Not A Crime

Today on playlist.com I found a playlist called "90s".  It had all the big pop hits from the decade.  Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, TLC, MC Hammer, 'N Sync, Green Day, and lots of others.  I listened to it, and it was cool cause it was all nostalgic and whatever - but I realized something.  Pop music in the 00's was waaay better than the 90s.  Maybe Lady GaGa, Black Eyed Peas, and Alicia Keys aren't your favorite (they're certainly not my favorite) but they are way better than TLC.  The only thing the 90s had on us is that there was way more grunge and ska.  I used the word "us" because I see me and my friends as "00s teens" and my older siblings as "90s teens".

Anyway, Pitchfork has a lot more to say about Pop and it's history than I can.
Their article called "The Decade in Pop"  was an awesome read.  It was part of a series titled P2K: The Decade in Music.  If you like music journalism (from admittedly pretentious but also very smart people) you'll like P2K.

I had some other things on my mind I intended to talk about.  But for now I've forgotten.  They'll end up in my journal, I'm sure.  Today in sociology we learned about spurious correlations.  I think they're cool.

That's all for now.  Peace.

No, no, no. I've heard people say the '90's was good music. Yeah, maybe they were good at the time BECAUSE I WAS AGE ZERO! I think '90's music is the worst music of all time.

Britney Spears--fail.
Backstreet Boys--fail.
TLC--fail.
MC Hammer--fail.
'N Sync--fail.

Green Day, I suppose, was better in the '90's, but that's hardly saying anything.

Yeah, I like the Nimrod album. And Kurt Cobain is obviously cool. And the 90s had the younger, cooler, Brad Pitt. Although that's movies, not music.

I love andy Samberg, and yes, the 90s blew, but it had to happen or we wouldn't have music that we know of now!

huh...I guess it's just me but I love 90's music. No Doubt(mostly Tragic Kingdom) and Blink 182 (mostly Enema of the State), CAKE, even select songs from TLC, LEN, Sugar Ray--is totally the music of my childhood. And I still listen to it, but maybe the main reason I love it is because of the awesome memories I have growing up with it? I dunno, but I think it's awesome.

No decade is without it's share of great hits. I like Cake and Blink 182, too. And Dakota, nice quotage!
